31-38 Kings Road, Brighton & Hove, BN1 1NR
Brighton Pier: 6 minutes walk.
Dating back in parts to 1559, The Old Ship Hotel is a classic four star Grade II listed Sussex seaside hotel with 154 rooms including 49 sea view. Located right on Brighton seafront with superb views of the beach and the sea, plus a short stroll to the Laines for shopping and the Pier for eating yummy ice cream!
The Old Ship is a perfect stay for a lively weekend summer break or for a Brighton breezy stay in the winter when things are a little less hectic in the city, and you just fancy getting wrapped up for long walks along the beach.
The hotel is tops for brunch in the Mess Deck cocktail bar, lunch in the Wardroom restaurant or a book in for a huge classic Old Ship English afternoon tea from £19.50 per person.
WE SAY: Quirky deeply historic hotel with a can do team of smiling staff. Fabulous breakfast, amazing afternoon tea and a great terrace to soak up Brighton. If you are staying at weekends in high season and are not out to party until late then you might like to ask for a room at the back, these are generally quieter.
PARKING: Yes limited to 50 spaces first come first served (unless you need to drive it can be easier to park out of town and take the train to Brighton at weekends).
LIFT: Yes 2 (quirky 100 year old lifts a little slow)
PET FRIENDLY: Yes fee applies, furry friends are welcomed but do tell them when booking.
PRICES: Low season, standard double or twin from £128, sea view from £160 breakfast included.
NOTE: If you book room only you can upgrade to breakfast on arrival and also upgrade rooms.
It has been announced after lengthy planning permission applications that the Old Ship is to undergo a complete renovation of all rooms and guest areas including replacing the antique lifts starting in 2022 TBC. (you can only imagine how lengthy and tough this is in Brighton when dealing with a Georgian grade II listed hotel).
